Last straw for pub chain giant

The pub company Wetherspoon is getting rid of plastic straws.

It will stop using them in all its 900 pubs by the end of the year, it is reported in Hospitality and Catering News.

From the start of 2018 Wetherspoon will only be providing more environmentally friendly paper straws which are biodegradable.

The company says the move is part of its commitment to reduce non-recyclable waste.

It believes the action will be welcomed by pub goers.
