Lane closures as essential bridge repairs take place

Drivers will face overnight diversions as maintenance work is carried out on a busy Gloucestershire road bridge.

Crews will be installing 14 new joints in Over Causeway, near Gloucester and at the same time 640m of drains will also be cleaned

The work will be carried out between 17th September and 12th October overnight between 8pm and 6am on weekdays. One side of the carriageway will be open at all times to minimise disruption.

Work will begin on the A417 northbound, towards the Over Roundabout, meaning the lane will be fully closed overnight. Weather depending, this should take two weeks.

Once that side of the bridge has been fully restored, work will start on the southbound side.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways said: "Our £150 million investment includes our highways structures, and now we're nearing the end of the Over Roundabout work, it's time to start thinking about the surrounding areas.

"We have delayed this essential work, but we need to get on with it now before weather conditions deteriorate into autumn and winter.

"This work is very weather dependent, so we can't say exactly when the closures will switch from the northbound to southbound carriageway but we will let people know.
