Just when you thought it was all Over - road closures return

Drivers face major delays at one of the county's busiest roundabouts this weekend because the rain has held up essential roadworks.

The wet weather meant the new road surface could not be completed at the Over roundabout, near Gloucester last weekend as had been planned.

So crews will be back on the ground at 7am this Saturday August 18 to finish the job as part of a £2.756m improvement scheme.

A diversion route will be signposted for motorists travelling westbound, but Gloucestershire County Council's advice is to avoid the roundabout on Saturday, if possible.

For the rest of the week there will be off peak lane closures on the approach to the roundabout from Highnam. The south side of the roundabout is currently one lane to filter traffic away from the lane closure going into Gloucester.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council said: "We are aware that weekend road closures have caused issues for commuters, however we can't control the weather. We understand everyone's frustration and our priority now is to get the new surface laid as soon as possible.

"Again I would like to apologise for the disruption and thank everyone for their patience."

Road closures at Over roundabout, 7am to 12 midnight on 18 August:

• A40 Westbound from Longford Roundabout to Over Roundabout

• A417 Northbound from Over Causeway to Over Roundabout

• A417 Southbound from Over Roundabout to Over Causeway

The newly surfaced roads, including the A40 Eastbound from Highnam to Longford with access to the A417 Northbound to Maisemore, the A417 Southbound from Maisemore to Longford through Over only, and the A417 Northbound Over Causeway Spur to Westbound A40 towards Highnam will be open however, advice is to avoid the roundabout if possible as the closures are likely to cause significant delays.

Full diversions will be in place and signposted, and more information can be found online: www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/A40-Over
