Jail house rocks as city's summer of music and culture gets underway

Gloucester's former prison echoed to the beat of live bands and break dancers last night as the exciting Summer of Music, Arts and Culture (SoMAC) was launched.

Foot-tapping guests enjoyed some great entertainment from some talented young people to mark the start of what promises to be Gloucester's biggest and most successful SoMAC event.

Running g throughout June, July and August there will be a whole range of world class arts, musical and cultural events to cater for all tastes and ages.

These include a second Art in The City live painting event, the ever-popular Gloucester Rhythm and Blues Festival, Gloucester Classical Music Festival and the Royal Three Counties Gloucestershire Old Spot Trail to name but a few.

At the heart of SoMAC will be live music concerts, arts and craft workshops, poetry competitions and lots of fun events.

Jason Smith, chief executive of Marketing Gloucester which has organised SoMAC told guests at the launch that Gloucester was on the up, not just because of regeneration but in terms of cultural appeal as well.

There was a real driving force building up to ensure this year's SoMAC is the most successful ever.

Punchline believes that SoMAC is a fantastic way to promote our great city and encourage thousands of visitors to experience our heritage.

We also applaude companies like WSP Solicitors who are sponsoring this great event, demonstrating that businesses can make a real difference to the success of our city.
