New business looking to bring a little style to Tewkesbury

A 20-something-year old former Tewkesbury School pupil is launching his first business - a stylish barbers in his home town.

After training and working at well-known high-end Gloucestershire salon Blushes in Cheltenham, as well as Rage on Tewkesbury High Street, and then serving time in Australian salons, he has come home with a plan.

And that plan is Studio Sixty, Jack England's new barbers shop at the north end of the north Gloucestershire town's High Street.

"If you had told me when I was 18 I would be opening a shop in Tewkesbury I would have said 'rubbish', but I think I have spotted a gap in the market," said Mr England, 27.

"Almost every little town you go to has a cool barbers shop, something for the younger crowd, and there is nothing like that in Tewkesbury.

"There are already a lot of people here who are very good at what they do, but I think the town needs something else."

He added: "I have had a lot of support from a lot of people here who have made this possible.

"I know a lot of people n Tewkesbury, my grandfather was Mayor of Tewkesbury, I'm Tewkesbury through-and-through and I have had a lot of different help from a lot of local businesses.

Using the skills of Tewkesbury-based DF Legal, PV Graphics for his sign-writing and Ricki Dean Carpentry & General Building, he now has everything in place ready to open on Monday (September 2).

Malcolm Rees from DF Legal gave advice on the terms of the lease.

"Malcolm's advice was invaluable", said Mr England. "The wording in a lease is very technical and I was guided through the whole process. It was reassuring to have someone with expertise on hand to help me."

Mr Rees said: "Tenants should only enter into a lease if they are fully aware of their obligations.

"Many of these can be onerous often weighted in favour of the landlord. Landlords frequently exclude a tenant's right to renew at the end of the lease.

"A business owner who spends years building up his business and customer base may face the prospect of having to find new premises at the end of the term through no fault of their own."

Opening hours currently will be 9am to 7pm six days a week, with a late night to 8pm on Thursday and an early 7.30am start on Saturday.
