It's official: Gloucestershire firm is the best sub-contractor in the country

A Gloucestershire firm has been crowned as the crème-de-la-crème of sub-contractors at one of the construction industry's showpiece award events.

The National Housebuilder Awards saw Staverton-based Clarkson Evans scoop the Sub Contractor of the Year Trophy.

Clarkson Evans started life as a family business in the 1980s as SP Evans Electrical Contractors - in the bedroom of current chairman Steve Evans' family home.

Now headquartered on the Meteor Business Park between Cheltenham and Gloucester, the firm specialises in wiring new homes across the south of England and into Wales.

The Clarkson Evans entry for the awards was entitled 'The Customer is King' and won praise from the judges who singled the firm out from some of the most established businesses in the sector.

The entry showcased the lengths that the company will go to in order to remain the electrical contractor of choice for all the major national house builders.

Managing Director, Nathan Evans said: "While it was great to be recognised by our peers when we were awarded the Electrical Contractor of the Year by the ECA earlier this year, this award is particularly special to us because it's judged by those whose opinion we care about most - our customers.

"We are so proud to have won and it's the icing on the cake for what's been another record-breaking year.'

Clarkson Evans is the largest electrical contractor serving the new-build housing sector, having wired around 25,000 properties this year.

They 21 branches nationwide, the company directly employs nearly 1,000 staff (not subcontractors) and trains large numbers of apprentices.

"We're proud of what we do but we don't take anything for granted and such national recognition means a lot to us," Mr Evans added.
