Car driven at Gloucester Rugby fans 'was not terrorism related'

Police have describe how an off-duty special constable and members of the public restrained a man outside Gloucester Rugby Football Club after a car appeared to be driven towards a group of fans.

A man was arrested following the incident on Kingsholm Road where fans were leaving the ground following Gloucester Rugby's game against Wasps (Gloucester won the match 25-9).

According to the police the driver also got out of the car and threatened people with a baseball bat before being restrained.

Police officers responded swiftly and arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving, public order and drugs offences.

No-one was injured during the incident.

Gloucestershire Constabulary described the event as "an isolated incident and not terrorism related".

A second man was also been arrested.

The 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and is in custody awaiting questioning.

A police statement this morning said both men have now been released under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 quoting incident 344 of 26 October.
