Hundreds of homes planned for outskirts of city

Developer Crest Nicholson has applied to Stroud District Council for permission to build 620 new homes.

If it gets the go ahead, the proposed new development, known as Hunts Grove Extension, will adjoin the existing Hunts Grove development to the south of Gloucester.

Plans include up to 620 new homes and land for a primary school, with access to the development from Haresfield Lane.

The outline planning application doesn't include any detail on the sizes of the proposed homes or whether any of them will be affordable housing.

The Design and Access Statement to accompany the planning application said: "The site offers an opportunity to deliver an integrated, vibrant and legible extension to Hunts Grove, with clear movement and landscape connections, to create a cohesive whole.

"We are proposing to deliver up to 620 homes on the site, with the potential to provide land for a second primary school for the area and multi-functional green infrastructure. The whole community will enjoy convenient access to a new park which is proposed alongside Haresfield Lane at the heart of Hunts Grove."

Of the 26.8 ha site, 58% is proposed to be developed for housing. Space for a primary school is located to the north west of the site, close to Haresfield Lane and the neighbourhood centre. Approximately 7.4 ha (28%) of the site's area will be retained as green space, either in the landscaped edges, central green corridor or town park.

The planning application includes 930 parking spaces - with homes provided with the appropriate level of parking spaces, and provision for some on-street visitor spaces.

The existing Hunts Grove consists of 1,750 new homes, employment opportunities, a neigbourhood centre and primary school.

The Design and Access Statement concluded: "The proposals have been designed to integrate with and provide a logical, sustainable extension to Hunts Grove settlement, respond to site context and character and existing constraints and opportunities."
