Housing provider teams up with school to create mural

A colourful mural of animals by a lake is brightening up hoardings of a construction site in Tewkesbury, thanks to children from Queen Margaret Primary School, working with Severn Vale Housing and their contractor Saxonby.

Work has officially begun on the building of four one bedroom flats on a site next to the school in York Road, Priors Park. Severn Vale Housing has teamed up with their contractor Saxonby to deliver the two storey scheme on the former school caretaker's bungalow site.

Children of all ages from the school were invited along this week to create a mural on hoardings surrounding the construction site.

Severn Vale Housing and Saxonby are also working with the school to provide a forest area in the grounds, creating a barked covered, fenced area with log seating. This will be used by the children in science lessons and as a relaxation area.

Artist in Residence at the school, Joanne Humphreys said: "We are very excited to be working with Severn Vale and Saxonby.

"The children don't very often get to do something like this. We started working on the design a few weeks ago with children drawing sketches. They came along and drew their designs on the hoarding and they have painted it on the hoardings.

"It's a really nice thing for them to do at the close of the school year. When they return the new forest area will be complete".

Seven Vale Housing development manager Chris Knibbs said: "I am very pleased to be working alongside Queen Margaret School with our contractors Saxonby to deliver some benefits for them while building this new scheme".
