Hospital education service is finalist for national education award

Gloucestershire's hospital education service has been nominated for an award for its outstanding work.

The team has been shortlisted as a finalist for the TES (Times Educational Supplement) alternative provision school of the year award. It was also shortlisted for the award in 2016.

The hospital education service provides education for all pupils aged four to 16 who are unable to attend school for medical reasons. This is done through its schoolroom at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and its outpatients team. It also provides support and education to school-aged parents and pregnant schoolgirls.

Now in their 11th year, the awards recognise the outstanding contribution to education made by teams and individuals both inside and outside schools. The winners will be announced on 22nd June. The head of service has also been invited to the House of Commons on 5th June, with representatives from other schools.

Cllr Richard Boyles, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "This is a well deserved award nomination and it's wonderful to see Gloucestershire's hospital education service leading the way nationally. It's a tribute to the team that our children and young people do so well, often in the face of the most significant health challenges."

Annalise Price-Thomas, head of Gloucestershire hospital education service, said: "I'm constantly impressed by the determination of the Gloucestershire hospital education service staff who work tirelessly to make sure that pupils with medical needs thrive and reach their potential.

"It's a boost to the morale of pupils and staff that the TES has recognised that there is something special about Gloucestershire hospital education service too."
