Historic country house and wedding venue up for sale

Grade II listed manor house Glewstone Court Country House is on the market through specialist business property advisers Christie & Co.

The award-winning hotel, restaurant and wedding venue is situated in the Wye Valley, in a small hamlet near Ross-on-Wye in the Herefordshire countryside and is within just 30 minutes' drive of Gloucester and Cheltenham.

With a freehold guide price of £1.5m, Glewstone Court is said to have been the pride and passion of the current owners, Gary and Karen Homewood since they acquired the property in 2014.

Mr and Mrs Homewood embarked on a five-year renovation programme, investing significantly to modernise the dated Georgian house and restore it to its former glory. This included structural and electrical repairs, refurbishment of the guest rooms and all common areas and bar, a new commercial kitchen and a significant upgrade of the third-floor suite and extensive owners' accommodation, which could also be utilised as additional guest accommodation with the appropriate authorisations.

The property now comprises of nine en-suite guest rooms, a large restaurant, bar and lounge and two other private dining rooms/conference and event spaces situated within the Georgian main house and two Regency wings.

Land surrounding Glewstone Court has also been transformed into beautifully landscaped gardens, with a Mediterranean courtyard which has stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

The business has become a renowned wedding venue within the region, offering excusive hire for clients, and winning various accolades including 'Best Newcomer' in the Three Counties Wedding Awards 2016, 'Silver' in the Bridebook Wedding Award 2018 and 'Best Wedding Venue' in the Matrimony Awards 2019. Additionally, the restaurant has 2 AA Rosettes and the hotel has been recommended for AA Red Star status.

Gary and Karen Homewood said: "After seven incredible years at Glewstone Court, we have decided to take a step back in order to spend more time with our children and grandchildren. This decision ultimately presents a rare opportunity to acquire a unique and popular venue with significant potential for further development to increase income streams.

"We sincerely hope that we can find the right buyer to build on the solid foundations we have laid and continue the great relationships which we have forged whilst enjoying an enviable lifestyle in the stunning Wye Valley."

Richard Thomas, senior hotels broker in Christie & Co's Hospitality team is handling the sale.

He said: "The market for good quality country assets is fiercely competitive at the moment which is due in the main to a real lack of supply. Glewstone Court is a rare example of a traditional family ran business, incorporating a profitable operation with significant room for growth and a real opportunity for a new owner, all in the surroundings of one of the UK's most idyllic locations."
