Hinkley Point project to cost more and face delays

The nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point C, being developed by EDF, is going to cost more and be finished later than scheduled.
That's the latest indication from financial documents filed in France by the French-owned company which has its UK base in Gloucester.
The report cites problems like the effects of Covid, Brexit, supply chain issues, inflation and Ukraine.
EDF last updated its construction schedule in January 2021. It said then that the nuclear plant would be delayed by six months until June 2026 and cost an additional £500 million pounds, taking the overall cost to £22-23 billion.
The plant was originally expected to open in 2025 and had a construction budget of £18 billion.
The firm said: "A new comprehensive review to update the costs and schedule estimates announced in January 2021 is underway and is expected to be finalised by summer 2022."
