Hillary Clinton promises to reveal all in Cheltenham Literature Festival appearance

Hillary Clinton will be revealing all when she appears at this year's Cheltenham Literature Festival next month.

As the latest high profile appearance to be announced by the festival, which runs from October 6 - 15, the former US presidential candidate promised to "let her guard down" as she discusses what it was like to fight Donald Trump for the role of leader of the free world.

"In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I've often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net. Now I'm letting my guard down," she said.

The University of Gloucestershire is proud to sponsor her appearance at The Centaur at Cheltenham racecourse on Sunday, October 15. Her speech will be one of only two in the UK this autumn, the other being at the Southbank Centre's London Literature Festival on the same day.

In an intensely personal and revealing interview, the former First Lady will discuss her memoir, What Happened.

She will give a no-holds barred account of the experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules.

The election of 2016 was unprecedented and historic. Clinton's talk will be a candid account of that campaign and its aftermath from the extraordinary woman in the eye of the storm.

Tickets for her event will go on sale to Festival members on Friday, September 15, from 1pm, and to the general public the following day from 10am.

Security surrounding Clinton's appearance is expected to be intense and is a perfect opportunity for the Gloucestershire Constabulary to trot out their police horses. Punchline thinks they will be ideal for the occasion as they are tall enough to see over the top of the fences of the Centaur in case of any trouble.
