Have your say on patient waiting times

Patients on a waiting list for Gloucestershire Royal or Cheltenham General Hospitals are being contacted, as part of the work to reduce delays caused by the pandemic.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has already done a great deal to reduce the waiting lists and will now be contacting patients for further details.

In the SMS text message, entitled 'GHFT-NHS,' patients will receive a unique four-digit pin. The message will ask patients to enter the pin and their date of birth to log in and complete a short survey.

Patients without a contact number on the hospital's records will receive a letter in the post.

By responding and completing the survey, patients will help the hospitals to reduce waiting times.

The trust stresses that:

• The communication will only ever ask questions relating to the patient's care

• It will never ask for bank details or make reference to money or payment

• It will never ask patients for their name or address, but they will be able to update details if they are not correct

• The message will include a unique pin and will ask patients to input their date of birth only to log in

• If patients don't respond to the text message, the trust will write to them asking for completion of the paper survey

• A business reply envelope will be included to allow the return of the postal survey without any cost to the patient. The return address will be in Macclesfield - this is where the team is collating responses.

Professor Mark Pietroni, medical director, said: "We recognise that some patients have been waiting a long time and we know how hard this can be.

"We are determined to do everything we can to treat as many people as possible and to reduce waiting times. Over the past six months, considerable progress has been made, as a result of additional appointments and operations being offered at weekends for example.

"We still have a long way to go to get waiting times back to the length they were before the pandemic and contacting patients digitally will help us to do this as efficiently as possible.

"If you do receive a message from 'GHFT-NHS', please do respond by completing the survey. Alternatively, if you receive a letter, we would also encourage you to complete and return this at the earliest opportunity.

"The public continues to be incredibly understanding and we would like to thank them once again for their ongoing patience."
