Have your say on a housing development planned for Cheltenham

Local residents and businesses are being asked for their views on a proposed new housing development in Swindon Road, Cheltenham.

Cheltenham Borough Council and Cheltenham Borough Homes (CBH) are working together to provide 24 new affordable homes on an unused brownfield site at 320 Swindon Road.

To support Cheltenham's response to the climate emergency, CBH said it is looking to deliver homes that exceed current building regulations and consider other aspects such as biodiversity and fuel poverty considerations.

The housing provider added that the homes are designed to contribute to and integrate into the surrounding area, using attractive brickwork and landscaping.

Parking will be also be provided within the complex and the new houses located on Richards Road will have driveways with off-road parking. The entrance to the complex will be off Malvern Street.

Steve Slater, CEO Cheltenham Borough Homes said: "We are committed to breathing life back into unused areas across Cheltenham and these homes will bring community and a new purpose to this corner of the neighbourhood. The intention is that the homes will be available as both rented and shared ownership, helping to reduce the number of people waiting for an affordable home in Cheltenham."

Bicycle parking, bin storage and outdoor areas are also included within the scheme.

The housing association said solar panels, green roofs and low carbon construction have been incorporated into the design to respond to the climate emergency and provide a more natural living environment.

Councillor Mike Collins, cabinet member for housing added: "I am excited to see the views of local people on the proposed development and how it could have a positive impact on the local area. These homes will be another great example of the council and CBH working together as part of the £180m housing investment in Cheltenham's future, to deliver a range of high-quality affordable homes throughout the town".

Following engagement with local residents and businesses in April 2021, CBH is inviting residents and business-owners to give their views for a period of three weeks between June 28 and July 16.

Plans of the development and a questionnaire will be available online via cbh.org/proposed-development-of-320-swindon-road.
