Halifax to close in Stroud

Stroud's branch of the Halifax will close in November, it has been announced.

It will be the second bank to close in the town this year, following the closure of Barclays in January.

Halifax lists 65 branch closures across the UK for this year on its website, including Tewkesbury, which closed in February.

It said: "When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers including how they continue to access banking services."

The nearest Halifax branch to Stroud is in Gloucester.

Meanwhile, Brits are sitting on an estimated £14.5 billion of paper £20 and £50 notes, which will no longer be legal tender from September 30.

Punchline said: "If you've got any paper £20 or £50 notes in your wallet, you'd better get them to the bank fast - if you can find one which is still open!"
