Halfords buys automotive business for £62m

Halfords has purchased automotive group National for £62m, in a deal which will see the brand become a motoring services focused business.

National, which owns National Tyres and Autocare, Viking Wholesale Tyres and Tyre Shopper, will be integrated into Halfords' autocentres on completion of the deal.

Halfords said that its garage estate would grow by more than 60 per cent following the acquisition, from 372 to 604 garages, and motoring service staff will reach 7,500.

The business also plans to add electric servicing capabilities into National garages.

Halfords chief executive, Graham Stapleton said: "Given our recent track record of successfully acquiring and integrating businesses, and the potential we see to further grow our motoring services business in other areas of the country, I am very excited about our future growth prospects, and I look forward to welcoming the new teams to the business."
