£500,000 will get new 12,000 sq ft gym in shape for centre of Gloucester

Gloucestrians won't be short of somewhere to get fit post festive feasting. A new 24-hour gym is shaping up to open in the centre of Gloucester with a planned half a million pounds of investment.

The Anytime Fitness gym is described by its 32-year-old entrepreneur owner as a "state-of-the-art facility and is expected to create 10 jobs.

Due to open in Northgate Street in early 2020 the business is taking over the 11,700 sq ft of space once home to the short-lived Snap Fitness.

The latter invested a reported £1 million in the premises above TK Maxx, but closed unexpectedly in January 2018 after being open less than 18 months.

"I'm excited to be able to bring a brand-new, premium gym facility to the local area," said owner Max Williams, originally from Canada and currently living in Bristol.

"I'm keen to put community at the heart of our proposition and create a welcoming environment that people of all ages and fitness can enjoy.

"As well as making our members feel welcome when we're in the gym, we want to make sure they feel valued and supported outside of it too which we feel will really set us apart.

"I've begun employing some of our full-time staff ready for the New Year and it's been great that these jobs have gone to highly motivated and talented people from Gloucester and local areas.

In addition to the 10 staff the gym expected to create work for "various contractors, including nutrition experts, physios, individual class instructors and cleaning staff".

Apparently the Anytime Fitness facility will be one of the first in the country to incorporate the "Gen 2" gym design.

Its open plan design allows it to be split into various training zones.

Anytime Fitness describes itself as "the UK's leading fitness franchise, with over 165 clubs open across the UK". All clubs are individually owned.
