Greggs to open in Sainsbury’s

You could soon be picking up a fresh, hot sausage roll from the supermarket, as lunchtime favourite, Greggs, has unveiled plans to open cafés in several Sainsbury's stores before the end of the year.

Greggs said it will open "half a dozen" new outlets with the supermarket, including "coffee-style operations" in-store and concessions at its garages, as reported by Retail Gazette.

The new cafés will be operated by Greggs and will build on its existing partnership with Sainsbury's, which started with a garage concession in Bedfordshire earlier this year.

Greggs opened in seven Tesco stores earlier this year.

The supermarket partnerships are part of the retailer's strategy to open 150 net new stores by the end of 2023, which also includes opening stores in airports.

Sainsbury's closed 200 of its own in-store cafés in 2022, including in Gloucester and Cheltenham.
