Google dominates Gloucester firm's search

Google dominates a list of the world's richest internet domains compiled by a Gloucester-based company.

Fast Hosts, based at Gloucester Docks, has compiled the list of the most lucrative website which is dominated by the search engine.

Google tops the list with an estimated value of more than $102billion, tied with YouTube which is owned by the search engine.

And it has 20 individual domains on the list with a collective value in excess of $129billion.

There is a sharp drop to the nearest competitor, Chinese online retailer TMALL which has an estimated value of more than $59billion - well ahead of Facebook which is next on the list at $16billion.

Wikipedia rounds out the top 10 at $4.83billion, just ahead of Amazon with $4.78billion although the online retail giant has six separate entries in the chart with a combined value of $13.3 billion that would place it just below Facebook in the list.

Netflix ($4.44billion) and Zoom($4.39billion), two successes of the coronavirus lockdown, are at 15th and 16th on the list.

Tech sites make up more than 40 per cent of the list - Baidu, Weibo and Reddit also making the top 20 - while Chinese ecommerce companies Taobao and JB are both in the top 10.
