Phase One plans for £1.4bn Golden Valley revealed

Detailed plans are now available for the first phase of the £1.4 billion Golden Valley development.

Following on from the consultation on outline proposals for the pioneering garden community, integrating over 1 million sq ft of commercial space for tech businesses with 1,000 new homes, HBD and Cheltenham Borough Council want to hear local people's thoughts on the plans.

Local people can go along to consultation events today (March 21) 5:30-7:30pm or tomorrow (March 22) 10am-12pm at Gloucestershire College, Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham.

The first phase of development will be made up of the Innovation Centre and a Mobility Hub to promote sustainable travel, alongside new open spaces and landscaping.

The Innovation Centre is a workspace designed to build on Cheltenham's role as a leader in cyber and secure tech, with facilities to support skills development, cutting-edge research investment and business growth.

The building has been created to fit around three veteran oak trees on the site at West Cheltenham, close to GCHQ. The shape of the building will create a courtyard containing two of the oaks as a space to relax for both the public and people working in the Innovation Centre.

The outline planning application for the development is expected to be approved this spring, with a more detailed (Reserved Matters) planning application submitted shortly afterwards.

Last week, it was announced that businesses which want to be part of the development will have to sign a social values charter as part of their lease.

People who are unable to go to the events can have their say online at www.goldenvalleyuk.com/2025consultation or by phone on 01143 504 477 or goldenvalley@hbd.co.uk.
