Gloucestershire's first electric coach trialled by Bennetts

Bennetts Coaches of Gloucester are trialling the first fully electric coach to be used in the county.

Thanks to Pelican Engineering Group, Bennetts is lucky enough to have a demonstrator vehicle on loan this week, so keep a look-out for the 50-seater Yutong TC12E, which will be travelling in and around the county.

Bennetts managing director Gavin Bennett said: "Here at Bennetts Coaches, we have now reached our 60-year anniversary and we wouldn't have been able to stay successful for so long without moving with the times.

"By investing in the newest, most modern vehicles, we are now running some of the most fuel-efficient coaches on the market, and this is just our next step to a cleaner future.

"We are all very excited here at the depot in seeing this new technology first hand, and we hope that anyone who is lucky enough to travel on this vehicle over the coming week enjoys the journey, on what could be the future of coach travel."

Bennetts has also recently ordered two brand new Mercedes Benz Tourismo coaches which are due for delivery in December.

Mr Bennett said: "We can't get them any quicker. We're increasing the fleet because we're having to turn work away because we haven't got enough vehicles. We currently have 33 vehicles and we're licensed to go up to 36."

The firm currently has 63 staff but it is looking for another six, mainly drivers but also one office staff member.
