Several libraries in the county will reopen their doors this week following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

During the past few weeks more than 25 libraries have been offering a collection service that enables customers to request books, DVDs and other available materials they would like to borrow.

From this week, four libraries will reopen with strict social distancing measures in place. Crucially anyone with COVID-19 symptoms and those in self-isolating households must not visit.

The four libraries are:

Newent Library, Monday 10 August

Longlevens Library, Monday 10 August

Prestbury Library, Tuesday 11 August

Stonehouse Library, Wednesday 12 August

It is mandatory for customers to wear face coverings inside libraries and there will be hand sanitizers at all entrances. Each library will have a certain number of people allowed in at any one time depending on the size of the building.

In many libraries there will be a one way system, but in some of the more complex buildings there will instead be 2m markings to help people to socially distance.

Public computers are available to book, up to three days in advance on a limited basis to meet demand and hygiene requirements.

Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member for libraries at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "We know how much people value libraries so it's great news that we are now in a position to reopen some of our buildings.

"I'd ask people to be patient as visiting your local library will be a different experience than before. It's important that everyone follows the social distancing measures when visiting, so we can make sure all our libraries remain safe for our staff and customers."
