Alysia Cameron Price, community fundraising manager, said: "We're really fortunate to have had the support of lots of pubs in Gloucestershire over the years. We've had pubs hold music nights, beer festivals, family fun events and even dog shows to help raise vital funds for our care.

"We wanted to recognise the positive contribution made by so many of our great Gloucestershire pubs, so came up with the idea of launching Gloucestershire's Great Big Pub Quiz, encouraging people to get down their local and get quizzical with friends.

"Lots of pubs have already pledged their support in being willing to be part of the Great Big Gloucestershire Pub Quiz. Why not check to see if your local is one of them by checking our website?"

Hospice volunteer, Penny Stanbury, has been hosting a regular pub quiz at The London Inn in Charlton Kings for the past four years, raising £3,700 for local families needing palliative care and bereavement support.

She said: "Through my volunteering I see first-hand the wonderful care which goes on here. I wanted to do something to help raise funds, and as I love quizzes I thought why not set one up? Pub quizzes are such a fun social occasion and we always end up having a great evening pitching our brains against each other while raising vital funds for the hospice. Everyone's a winner!"

Any Gloucestershire pubs wishing to be added onto the list of willing Gloucestershire Great Big Pub Quiz venues can call Alysia Cameron Price on 01242 246285.
