Gloucestershire Day Centre to support young people set to open

Gloucestershire County Council is set to open a Day Centre at Trevone House to support care assisted young people.

A report, which will be put to the council's Cabinet on Wednesday, November 10, proposes establishing a Day Service activity centre within the building.

Trevone House welcomed its first young people in March 2021. It provides ground-breaking specialist support and semi-independent accommodation to help vulnerable young care leavers approaching adulthood to learn the skills they need to live independently.

Proposals would see a Day Service added to the offering at Trevone House, to help young people develop social skills, independence, wellbeing, and gain accredited qualifications.

The Day Service will have the potential to reduce the number of young people coming into the care system and help them move straight into their own homes where they can live independently.

Cabinet approval would allow around £2.2 million of funding over a six-year period for a contract with a Day Service provider.

It comes after Trevone House was 'Highly Commended' in the Innovation in Children's Services category at The Municipal Journal awards in September. It was also shortlisted in the Children's Services category at the Local Government Chronicle awards, and the winners will be announced on November 4.

Cllr Stephen Davies, Cabinet member for Children's Safeguarding and Early Years, said: "I am delighted that we will be able to offer further support to our young people at Trevone House.

"A Day Centre service will help young people to progress, with a curriculum designed to aid the development of their independence.

"Gloucestershire is leading the way in its support for care leavers with Trevone House, and I am proud that we are continuing to invest in the facility."
