Gloucestershire County Council repairing roads melting in the heatwave

The surface dressing on Gloucestershire's roads have deteriorated following the recent high temperatures.
As a result Gloucestershire County Council has been working with its partners Ringway and Euro Surface Treatments to carry out emergency measures to keep the road safe.
The road was dusted using fine grit over the weekend, to soak up the surface material which has melted in the heat.
Once the summer is over and the extent of the damage can be fully assessed, the carriageway will be resurfaced using similar material to that of the roundabouts in the area.
These works to rectify the surface dressing will be carried out at the expense of the contractor, so there will be no impact on the public purse.
Councillor Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "I would like to thank the public for their patience with this road surface during this mini heatwave. I have instructed officers to work with our contractors to resolve the failed surfacing with a quality repair which will last. This will be at no additional cost to the taxpayer and will deliver a smooth and high quality surface for all road users."
