Gloucestershire County Council has planted more than 1,000 trees at Arle Court roundabout in Cheltenham.

As part of the council's ambition to plant a million trees by 2030, these trees have been planted at Arle Court roundabout close to Arle Court Transport Hub.

Provided by the county council, the trees include maple, sycamore, hazel, crab apple and pear, and will provide a 100-metre wildlife corridor.

The trees planted were a mixture of young 'whips' and older 'standard' trees to create a variety of habitats for urban wildlife. Urban green corridors also improve air quality and can help lower temperatures during hot weather.

Since 2020, the county council has planted 66,390 trees and if conditions allow, more than 90,000 will be planted this season.

The project has been funded by the Forestry Commission's Local Authority Treescapes Fund and Gloucestershire County Council highways.

A £20 million transformation project is currently underway at the nearby Arle Court Transport Hub. The improvements will deliver expanded bus services, improved facilities on site and better connections to the local walking and cycling network as part of our vision for a Greener Gloucestershire.

Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning at Gloucestershire County Council, was on hand to help with the planting.

He said: "Urban tree planting is an important part of our approach to increasing tree cover in Gloucestershire.

"These trees alongside the improved facilities at Arle Court Transport Hub are part of our vision for a Greener Gloucestershire."
