Gloucestershire community groups benefit to the tune of millions thanks to council support

More than £2 million has been ploughed into community groups across Gloucestershire thanks to Tewkesbury Borough Council.

In the past four years, the council's community development team has worked with community groups to identify funding opportunities available to them.

Support and advice provided to the groups has enabled them to apply for grants and help prepare applications to national funds.

Community funding officer Martha Mundy said: "I have really enjoyed being able to help our communities access such an impressive amount of financial help through trust funds, government funding, lottery funding, and many more avenues.

"Community groups in the borough work so hard and are so passionate about improving the communities they live and work in.

"It is fantastic to see the difference that the grants make."

Groups such as Deerhurst Church, St Michael's Centre and Tewkesbury Together 2021 have worked with our team to look for funding.

The council is encouraging more community groups in Tewkesbury Borough to get in touch for support.

Lead member for communities, Councillor Clare Softley, said: "With funds being stretched across all public services, this is a wonderful achievement and really shows how much can be achieved by working together.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the community groups who have worked with Martha for going above and beyond for their towns and villages.

"I would encourage anyone who needs help with a community project to contact the council for advice - perhaps we can get to another fantastic milestone soon."
