Gloucestershire chef Tom Kerridge under fire for Christmas dinner price tag

Gloucestershire-raised chef Tom Kerridge has come under fire for the price of his Christmas dinner kit.
The 49-year-old, who joined culinary school in Cheltenham at the age of 18, is selling a Beef Wellington Christmas Box for £195.
It will feed four people, at a cost of £48.75 each and Tom’s website said it provides the “ultimate Christmas indulgent meal”.
The TV chef has been accused of being out of touch amid the cost of living crisis.
The box includes a 30-day aged, organic, British beef fillet with a black truffle Duxelle and herb crepe, wrapped in all butter puff pastry - weighing 1.2kg.
It comes with pigs in blankets made from full-size Cumberland sausages and smoked streaky bacon and a red wine sauce to serve.
For afters there is a traditional sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and Christmas spiced brandy butter and a small amount of salted caramel fudge which has been dubbed the meal’s petit fours.
Customers will have to buy their own potatoes and other vegetable sides as they are not included.
But the box does helpfully include recipes for the “best roasties and brussel sprouts”
Tom kicked off his career in country houses and hotels across Gloucestershire where he worked as a junior chef.
He has gone on to appear on TV shows like Masterchef and Saturday Kitchen and runs eight restaurants including the Hand of Flowers and The Coach in upmarket Marlow, Buckinghamshire where he lives.
He announced the meal kit with a post on Instagram which has gained more than 9,000 likes and more than 350 comments.
Many were positive with plenty of people saying the meal looked like “absolute perfection” and they could not wait to snap up a kit.
But some were angry at the price tag.
One commenter said: “Completely unaffordable to the vast majority.”
Another said: “Do you not realise what's going on at the minute, people will be lucky if they can put meals on the table.”
One said the £195 price tag was more than they paid for electricity per month and another asked whether the price included a guest appearance by Tom to cook it.
Punchline has contacted Tom’s representatives for a comment.
Punchline says: "Tom Kerridge is not only a fantastic chef, he is a top marketeer, always managing to get noticed and seem relvant in a crowded market.
"Cheers to a great Gloucester guy and Merry Christmas to all."
