Gloucestershire charitable trust leads the way to feed local families in crisis

The Notgrove Trust is leading the way with its incredible generosity to support people who cannot afford to feed their families amid the COVID-19 health crisis.

The Cheltenham-based grant making trust behind Notgrove Holidays have pledged to donate £3,000 to both the #FeedGloucester and #FeedCheltenham crowdfunder appeals, which was launched earlier this month.

Sarah Avery, manager at Family Space in Cheltenham, said: "We are so thankful for the incredible generosity of The Notgrove Trust, these donations will make a huge difference to a lot of people who are struggling.

"We want to appeal to other trusts, organisations and local businesses to get behind these campaigns to help us get food and essential supplies to people that really need help."

Other charitable trusts including Ethical Giving and HaVinG, have also made generous donations.

Mark Gale of Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, who are backing the Feed Gloucester campaign said: "Every donation helps, but bigger donations like this mean we can get food to more people, more quickly.

"We've just released the first £1,000 from the Feed Gloucester campaign to get food parcels and supermarket vouchers to those in need this week, but we must keep going as we know basic essential supplies won't last long for families and there are lots of people that need help."

A Mum who received a food voucher through the Feed Cheltenham appeal said: "It is scary with no income, not knowing how much will come in and when. Everyday is a battle, the help you have given me has eased some of this anxiety. Thank you so much, your help has been amazing."

So far #FeedCheltenham has donated over £3,000 to households in need, and #FeedGloucester has donated over £1,000 (having launched a couple of weeks later) but campaign coordinators say that requests for support are coming in all the time as more people feel the effects of an extended lockdown.

Local primary schools have struggled to get the help they need through the free school meal funding so these campaigns are providing with a stop gap in supporting families in Cheltenham and Gloucester to prevent from going hungry.

Local famous faces Tweedy the Clown and TV chef Tom Kerridge have also showed their support for the campaign and shared video messages to get behind Feed Gloucester and Feed Cheltenham.

Both Feed Gloucester and Feed Cheltenham have partnered with local community organisations including The Nelson Trust, Roots, The Friendship Café, Together in Matson, Westgate COVID Group, Family Space and Trinity Church Cheltenham to get help to the people that need it.
