Gloucestershire businessmen cycle 250 miles for charity

The Hills Of Hope 2021 Heath Barnett Ultra Endurance Cycling Challenge took place on 26th June from Anglesey in North Wales to Berkeley in Gloucestershire.

It raised funds for three vital charities, Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, the Alzheimer's Society and Children for Cancer. A ten strong team of cyclists took on the 17-hour, 250-mile bike ride, raising a combined £7,800 for the charities so far.

Created in 2017 by E G Carter and Co Ltd commercial manager, Craig Barnett, in memory of his brother Heath, this was the fourth year that friends, business colleagues and partners came together to complete an epic cycling challenge for charities close to their hearts.

This year's cycle took on the biggest hills so far, resulting in the big-hearted bikers smashing through the £35,000 barrier for total funds raised.

Alongside Craig cycling were E G Carter and Co Ltd Associate Director, Peter Blanch, and business partners Allstone Speedy Skips, Commercial Director, Robin Heffter and Co-Owner and Director, Richard Street.

Craig Barnett, E G Carter and Co commercial manager said, "The Hills of Hope riders and support crew set out with a goal, that goal was to try and simply make a difference and raise awareness for very worthy charities.

"In remembering our loved ones and supporting our friends, this passion gave us the drive and determination to undertake such an epic challenge.

"This year's event was for each of the riders to cycle 250 miles in 24 hours, non-stop riding through night and day, from the top of Anglesey to Berkeley. The ride was the most challenging to date, with over 17,000 feet of climbing and some brutal, relentless hills to climb.

"It was a true test of everyone's strength, both physically and mentally, that we all exceeded our own expectations and made memories that will last a lifetime.

"The funds and awareness we have raised is a true testament to the love and support of our family, friends and sponsors. On behalf of everyone on the Hills for Hope team, a huge thanks to everyone who sponsored and supported us."

Robin from Allstone Speedy Skips shared, "I think it was madness alongside wanting to do something which inspired me to take on the challenge. I knew Craig's brother; Heath and Allstone Speedy Skips have supported Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court for a number of years now, and this year we're proud to be sponsoring their Ride for Ryder cycling sportive.

"I'd like to thank our Allstone Speedy Skips customers and suppliers who have been showing us such great support by getting behind us and donating. Knowing that we were making a difference for charity really helped motivate us during the dark hours of the night on the bike."
