Gloucestershire businesses celebrated in The King’s Awards for Enterprise

The recipients of The King's Awards for Enterprise have been announced today (May 6), celebrating the achievements of leading businesses from across the UK and Channel Islands and recognising their vital role in growing the economy to improve lives.

This year, 197 businesses representing a diverse range of sectors, have been recognised by His Majesty The King as among the best in the country, highlighting the ambition, ingenuity and success of the UK's diverse business community.

Of these, three are based in Gloucestershire.

They are:

Tomcat Special Needs Innovation Ltd, a Hucclecote-based custom built manufacturer of disability trikes

Red Savannah, a luxury travel firm based in Eagle Tower in Cheltenham

Hobbs House Bakery, based in Chipping Sodbury with shops in Nailsworth and Tetbury

Hobbs House was recognised for Sustainable Development, Red Savannah for International Trade and Tomcat for International Trade.

Nazia White, head of marketing and export at Tomcat, said: "This is a really proud moment for us. Leading the application process and seeing the company recognised in this way is incredibly meaningful.

"My journey into this industry began through personal experience, and it's a privilege to now play a part in making tri-cycling more accessible to people around the world. This award feels like a reflection of the purpose that drives us every day, and the people we do it for."

George Herbert, managing director of Hobbs House, said: "Our team is delighted that the business has been granted the King's Award. We are all on a journey to improve how we use resources responsibly, to produce good, tasty food sustainably and reduce the impact we make on our environment.

"We're especially proud of sourcing our ingredients as locally as possible, with most of our partners within a 20-mile radius. Over the past decade, we've cut our emissions by 22.9%, well on our way to our 10-year goal of a 42% reduction. Our electric vans, solar panels, green energy supply and zero bread-to-landfill policy are all part of that effort. And in the last year alone, we've removed almost a quarter of a tonne of plastic from our packaging."

George Morgan-Grenville, founder and CEO of Red Savannah, said: "Having been recognised with a Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2020 at the start of the global pandemic, being granted the King's Award in 2025 is a wonderful testament to the Red Savannah team whose tireless energy enabled us to get through an immensely challenging period in 2020/21, before capitalising very rapidly on the post-pandemic recovery.

"Apart from supercharging growth, we are also delighted to have been able to increase our donations to the Rainforest Trust UK (bringing the total land protected to over 30,000 acres, the equivalent of over 17,000 football pitches), together with additional financial support both for the Gloucestershire Community Foundation and Cheltenham Open Door - a wonderful charity providing cooked meals and support for the homeless."

Gareth Thomas, minister for services, small businesses and exports, said: "There are some exceptional businesses from the South West recognised in this year's King's Awards for Enterprise.

"I wish the winners every success as they continue to grow, innovate and prosper, and commend the invaluable contributions they have already made to communities at home in the South West and abroad, helping to boost the UK economy."

The King's Awards for Enterprise were previously known as The Queen's Awards for Enterprise and were renamed two years ago to reflect His Majesty The King's desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II by recognising outstanding UK businesses. The programme, now in its 59th year, has awarded over 8,000 companies since its inception in 1965.

His Majesty's Lord Lieutenants - The King's representatives in each county - will be presenting the awards to businesses locally throughout the year. One representative from each winning business will also be invited to a special royal reception event.
