Gloucestershire bikers' charity helps to ease pressure on NHS

The Gloucestershire Blood Bike charity who provide regional hospitals with a vital out of hours medical courier service, are truly 'going the extra mile' as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Severn Freewheelers have just gone live with not one, but two new services to help take some of the stress away from county hospitals.

After a call for volunteers from the public and utilising existing hospital volunteers, the charity is now offering a new daily service to hospital pharmacies. They are taking on the vital job of delivering essential medication, including cancer treatment drugs, to patient homes.

In addition to that, Severn Freewheelers have also mustered their own riders to man a full daytime service giving the NHS access to their highly trained, professional service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Gordon Downie, a founding trustee of the charity said: "We pulled out all the stops and in record time, achieved something we never thought possible. A marvellous example of our own members and the public coming together to help in times of crisis".
