Gloucester's regeneration driver moving on

The man who has been responsible for overseeing some major regeneration projects in Gloucester is leaving his job.

David Oakhill, Gloucester City Council's head of place, is leaving the council in September 2024 to take on a new opportunity.

During his time as head of place, David has been responsible for a wide range of functions, including planning, development management, enforcement, economic development and regeneration, heritage and major capital works delivery.

Major projects he has been involved in overseeing include The Forum, Kings Square and Whitefriars developments.

David said: "I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at the city council - being part of a very supportive corporate management team, leading some significant projects that will help continue Gloucester's regeneration, and working with a great range of stakeholders."

Gloucester City Council is currently advertising for a new head of place with a salary range of £79,852.08 - £88,047.00 per annum.

Details of the role can be found here - City Council Executive Recruitment | Gloucester City Council.

Punchline says: "It's sad that David Oakhill is leaving Gloucester City Council. He has done a sterling job behind the scenes. The wider community wouldn't know what he has done for the regeneration of the city. It's a lasting legacy.

"And it's a shame that the projects aren't yet finished. The 107 million pound question is who is going to go into The Forum apart from the Indigo Hotel? We are still waiting with bated breath to see who is going in there.

"There's a new MP, a new city council administration and there's going to be a new head of place. If they aren't careful the council could tread water and lose its momentum. Only time will tell whether it's good or bad."
