A rugby inspired sports travel and hospitality firm has driven revenue further over the line than ever before, thanks to a strong performance on the British and Irish Lions rugby tour.
Founded by its namesake, former Gloucester Rugby great and Lions tour star, Mike Burton Group saw turnover rise by 234 per cent from £13 million to £43.7 million.
Those who know the firm will know the cyclical nature of the international sporting competitions the Quedgeley business thrives off creates causes an ebb and flow to income streams.
Nevertheless, its increasing involvement with the likes of England Rugby Travel, its success as a licenced tour operator for Twickenham and operator of the Wimbledon Club at tennis's annual Wimbledon Championships spells out an upward trajectory.
This year's turnover compares to the previous high at the end of March 2016 of £32.6 million when total operating profit was £550,000. This year it reached £2.02 million. Both down from 2016's £9.3 million.
"The group is now entering a period of sustained growth that the directors are confident will ensure the group is successful for the foreseeable future," said a statement accompanying the group's results.
The Mike Burton Group's joint ventures include Lions Rugby Travel, the British & Irish Lions' official travel company - a joint venture with British Lions Limited.
England Rugby Travel is a joint venture with the Rugby Football Union.
