City's regeneration gathers pace

Redevelopment is now well underway on a well-known site in Gloucester.
The former home of Hobbs Bros, the oil distributors, in Monk Meadow, Hempsted is being transformed for new homes.
Soilfix, the ground risk solutions company, are busy clearing the two acre site that adjoins the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.
It is part of the £300m regeneration scheme to the south of the main Gloucester Docks. Historical land uses across 9 land parcels included shipyards and large former fuel storage terminals, which have resulted in complex contamination and ground engineering issues.
The 38 week contract, worth over £2 million, includes decommissioning and demolition of the former fuel storage depot and major groundworks including stabilisation to form a "suitable for use" development platform. Land parcels will be handed over to development partners to commence construction of around 1000 homes.
Certain areas are of considerable archaeological interest, and Soilfix are working closely with a team of archaeologists to accurately record remnant archaeology to the satisfaction of Historic England.
Nearby the Bakers Quay development is also a hive of activity with the construction of apartments, a hotel and restaurant.
