SALES UP: Gloucester Quays soars above national average

Bosses at Gloucester Quays have announced record Christmas trading, capping off a year of considerable growth.

Peel Retail & Leisure said across November and December, retail sales grew by 3.6% compared with 2023- itself a record year- and F&B sales were up 7.6%.

In total sales for 2024 increased by 7.4% year-on-year which is 6.7% ahead of the national average.

The British Retail Consortium's 2024 retail assessment showed total UK retail growth of 0.7%.

The Quays saw a 6.1% increase for retail and 8.5% for F&B with double-digit growth from brands including Next, Skechers, All Saints, Mountain Warehouse, Puma, Crew Clothing, Le Creuset, and Suit Direct.

There were also new lettings for Pret a Manger and Bakers & Baristas.

Peel said the performance uptick was also supported by the free-to-attend Christmas Market, which ran for the twelfth time, with more than 100 plus stalls and the ice rink.

Paul Carter, asset director at Peel Retail & Leisure, said: "There have been various headlines this month about how challenged retail was around Christmas, so to have Gloucester Quays performing so well is a real credit to our team and our brands.

"These results also serve as a reminder of how relevant and in demand this outlet is.

"We have experienced consistent growth for several years, and that success can be put down to the quality of our offer and waterside environment."
