Gloucester Quays reveal plans for new basement bar and restaurant

Diners and drinkers alike will be excited about recently-announced plans to enhance the city's bar and restaurant scene.

The owners of Gloucester Quays, Lifestyle Outlets, have submitted plans to transform the cellars of an 1830s warehouse within the centre, into a new food and drink unit.

The scheme is planned for the basement vaults beneath the Pillar and Lucy Warehouse at Gloucester Quays.

The Grade II-listed building currently has four vaults, one occupied by the Gloucester Quays management team and another is used as the customer toilets for the Coal and Grill.

The two remaining empty vaults, which are linked via a series four open archways, will be developed to form a unique bar or cafe opportunity for a future tenant.

The application said: "The unit will also have outdoor seating next to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal to complement and build on the success of units fronting the water."

A tenant for the site is yet to be confirmed. However, the project looks to complement the array of existing food and drink tenants within Gloucester Quays including Brewhouse and Kitchen, Portivo Lounge, Bill's and Côte Brasserie.

Similar style bars and eateries have proved popular right across the UK, including The Beer Emporium in Bristol and Monroe's Cellar Bar in Worcester.
