Gloucester grabs extra slice of history

Gloucestershire Archives will provide a glimpse into life at a Victorian school on Sunday as part of a weekend looking back into the past.

Gloucester History Festival's first Spring Weekend is offering a string of online experiences.

Among a series Blackfriars Talks is a look at celebrity from the Bronze Age to the silver screen with Horrible Histories expert Greg Jenner and festival president Dr Janina Ramirez, while Katja Hoyer explores Germany from 1871-1918.

Virtual tours will take a look at venues including Gloucester Cathedral, its library and the crypt of DeCrypt with a look at historical songs with Bella Gibbins.

The traditional two-week long Gloucester History Festival runs from September 4-19 marking a series of anniversaries including 70 years since the Battle of the Imjin River and 550 years since the Battle of Tewkesbury.
