Gloucester firm wins prestigious award for second time

Two county companies have won a prestigious design award for a new housing development.

Gloucester-based EG Carter and Sovereign Housing Association received the 2017 Bristol Civic Society Design Award for a new housing scheme in Bath Road, Bristol.

NOMA Architects of Bristol were also given the award which recognised high quality design and workmanship throughout a project. It was presented by Kevin McCloud of TV's Grand Designs.

The 52 affordable homes have made a huge difference to its new residents, some saying that it has changed their life.

The construction of the new houses and flats at Lynwood Park started in January 2016 on a brownfield site in the grounds of Grade II-listed Lynwood House.

The Grade II listed building has been restored by E G Carter & Co Ltd to accommodate four new homes for sale through shared ownership.

The design retained and restored the original features, removing non-original extensions and internal walls.

Manager of housing at E G Carter & Co Ltd Phillip Barnes said: "We are delighted and proud that the project team, working closely with Sovereign, has received recognition for the high quality design and construction of the Lynwood Park development.

"The project represents an excellent example of true collaborative working from inception through to completion of these wonderful new homes."

Regional Head of Development at Sovereign Housing Association Lesley Metcalf said: "I'm pleased we've been able to work with E G Carter & Co on this development, which has been a real success.

"It's an honour to receive this award in recognition of all the hard work by the project team to create the fantastic Lynwood Park development."

This is the second time that E G Carter & Co Ltd has received the award, having previously gained the accolade for Gainsborough Square, Bristol.
