Gloucester construction firm appoints next generation of managing directors

Bristol Road-based E G Carter & Co Ltd has revealed that brothers Joshua and Sam Carter will become managing directors of the fourth-generation family business on January 1, 2022.

Current managing director, Michael Carter will not be retiring but assuming the position of chairman and working in the background as he guides and steers Joshua and Sam as they grow into their respective roles.

Established in 1945 by Edward George Carter, great grandfather of the pair, the business now has a turnover approaching £75m and employs more than 110 people in Gloucestershire.

E G Carter & Co Ltd said it is confident that both Joshua and Sam Carter fully understand the underlying values, principles and ethos of how the business is run.

It added that both soon-to-be directors are fully committed to continuing with those values, principles and ethos, but will be keen to demonstrate their own personality and ambitions for the company going forward.

The business hopes the new appointments will give confidence to all employees and colleagues, all clients, their advisors, architects and the like, all members of their supply chain, subcontractors and all other stakeholders such as the bank, accountants and other professional bodies of continuity and stability.

As the new managing directors grow into their roles, it is believed that Sam Carter will lead on business development, strategy and construction whilst Joshua Carter will lead on all other aspects, such as; employee engagement and HR, head office functions, health and safety and corporate governance.

Recent projects for the business within the county include the regeneration of Kings Square, a new £9.5 million special school in Brockworth and the new training facility for Gloucester Rugby.
