Gloucester construction company on track to deliver 258,000sq ft Silverstone Park

An enterprise zone development being built by Barnwood Construction is due to be completed by its December deadline.

The Gloucester construction firm is the appointed contractor for the 258,000 sq ft Silverstone Park, next to the world famous Grand Prix circuit near Northampton.

It will consist of 13 units - six terraced and seven detached - which developers MEPC describe as "HQ style industrial properties".

Barnwood Construction managing director Ben Ramsay said: "Despite horrendous weather conditions at the start of the project and then moving in to the difficult restrictions to work in a Covid-safe environment, we are delighted to be handing over the first of the units to MEPC with the remaining units on track for the end of the year."

MEPC said the development is close to being 40 per cent let with three new business about to be announced as tenants.

Swiss drinks and lifestyle brand EIGHTY-ONE have been announced as one tenant while engineering firm KW Special Projects will be base its digital manufacturing centre at the park.

Silverstone Park commercial director Roz Bird said: "Even in these challenging times, Silverstone Park is proving a real magnet for specialist facilities in advanced engineering and companies with ambitious growth plans."

The first units are due to be handed over this month.

MEPC senior development manager Chris Kimber-Nickelson said: "The project is going very well and is on course to complete on its post-COVID timeline. We may even be done before then.

"The bulk of the operations such as steelworks, concrete and cladding is now complete."

Barnwood's recent projects include the Schrodinger Building at Oxford Science Park, Honeybourne Place in Cheltenham, the new Gloucestershire College Campus in the Forest of Dean and Bakers Quay in Gloucester Docks.
