A giant LED screen could be put up in King's Square, Gloucester.
Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) is asking the city council for planning permission.
In a report prepared by PJS Development Solutions, the BID says the screen would be a key component of its marketing and promotion plans.
The Epoch 330 digital rotating screen would measure 3.84 metres by 7.68 metres and mounted on a galvanised mast some 5.358 metres above the ground.
As well as advertising and information material, the screen could be used to transmit major events and mainstream media.
The report says Gloucester BID will be responsible for the management of the content displayed.
"The display can carry fixed pages, scrolling text and full graphics and video. Its primary purpose will be to carry a wide range of advertising and informational material to support the BID businesses and the BID area," adds the report.
"It is considered that the screen will have a significant positive effect on city centre visual amenity, contributing to the vitality and vibrancy of the area.
"The proposed screen has been sited and conceived to fit within the planned enhancement of the square."
