GC shortlisted for national apprenticeship award
15th December 2017
Following its recent AoC Beacon Award win, Gloucestershire College is thrilled to have been shortlisted for another national award.
The college is on the shortlist for the TES FE Apprenticeship Programme of the Year 2018.
The prestigious awards celebrate excellent and innovative practice across the further education sector and are now in their seventh year.
With colleges and training providers having submitted a record number of entries, next year's awards - which will take place at London's Grosvenor House hotel on 23 February - are set to be the biggest yet.
GC was proud to win the 2016 TES FE Award for Support for Learners, for transforming the transition of young people with autism from school to college by improving its provision, campuses and expertise with individualised needs.
The 2018 Apprenticeship Programme of the Year Award in particular recognises strategic and innovative approaches to delivering apprenticeships, and the work being done to access new groups of potential apprentices and support them as they start their careers.
The GC Apprenticeship Programme, which won the 2017 AoC Beacon Award for the Successful Promotion and Delivery of Apprenticeships, has increased overall success rates each year to well above the national average and expanded the range and levels of apprenticeships to meet employer, community and local skills needs.
Employer engagement and satisfaction is at the heart of the GC Apprenticeships Programme, with the primary goal being to make apprenticeship delivery more flexible, personalised and responsive.
GC has worked with employers to develop 38 new standards/frameworks over the past year, flexible pathways and professionally accredited apprenticeships, as well as a new degree standard in Aerospace Engineering created with the University of the West of England and GE Aviation.
These enable employers not only to recruit an apprentice throughout the year, but also put existing members of staff on to a programme that suits them.
The College has also helped over 100 local businesses upskill almost 500 members of staff through bespoke ESF-funded training programmes alone, whilst also being instrumental in helping businesses prepare for the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy.
Julie Tegg, head of work-based learning at GC, said: "We are delighted to once again receive national recognition for our GC Apprenticeships Programme, after winning the AoC Beacon Award just last month.
"We've worked hard to develop a centre for excellence for apprenticeships, alongside effective partnerships with employers and support for learners, which is reflected in our ever-growing provision and commitment to raise awareness of the positive impact apprenticeships have on both the community and local economy."
