Gas works to close major Cheltenham road for four weeks

Wales & West Utilities is set to carry out essential work to upgrade the gas network in the Lansdown Road area of Cheltenham, for four weeks between February 22 and March 19.

A road closure will be in place on Lansdown Road, from the junction of Queens Road and Andover Road to the junction of Montpellier Walk and Montpellier Terrace.

Wales & West Utilities said a diversion route will be clearly signposted and access for residents will be maintained.

Mick Gallavin, Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller said: "We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"We'll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.

"Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.

"To power a green recovery from coronavirus, we'll be working hard to keep the gas flowing safely today and to prepare the gas network to transport green gases, like biomethane and hydrogen, so it can play its part delivering green, sustainable energy in the future."
