Games Workshop says profits and revenues 'well above' previous year

The recovery of miniature war-game retailer Games Workshop shows no signs of slowing as the company revealed that profits are "well above" the previous year, according to the Telegraph.

In a brief update to the stock market, the Nottingham-based company, which has stores in Gloucester and Cheltenham, said both revenues and profits for the year were considerably ahead of the same period in the previous financial year.

The update, which includes the announcement of a dividend of 35p per share, sent Games Workshop's share price up by more than 10% in early trading.

The Telegraph says it marks the latest step in the company's comeback from a challenging year in 2015, when it was hit by disappointing Christmas sales and a slowdown on the high street.

Games Workshop was last year boosted by the weakness of the pound following the vote to leave the European Union as around three-quarters of its sales come from overseas.

In its annual report posted last month, it said pre-tax profits for the year to the end of May had reached £38.4m, up from £16.9m in the previous year.

In the last year, Games Workshop shares have risen 154%.
