Funding available for community groups across Tewkesbury borough

Community groups across Tewkesbury borough are being asked to express an interest for funds that could make a real difference to local projects in their community.

A number of areas have seen new homes introduced recently including Brockworth, Stoke Orchard, Shurdington and Winchcombe.

And as a result of Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, the borough council has collected contributions from the developers to invest back into local community projects, specifically for sport, leisure and playing pitches.

They are now asking for community groups to express an interest in Section 106 monies where the fund allocation is not explicit. Expressions of interest will need to highlight that a need in the community has arisen as a result of new housing development.

The closing date for expressions of interest is October 23.

Councillor Clare Softley, lead member for communities, said: "Almost £150,000 has been put aside for sports provision in the Brockworth area, as well as around £80,000 in Stoke orchard for sports and community facilities. £84,000 is available in the Winchcombe area for playing pitches, community facilities and local infrastructure.

"On top of this there is also over £710,000 to improve the existing pitches in Shurdington.

"We would love to hear from local groups who can demonstrate how they can meet the needs of the community who have, and will move into, these areas, so please do get in touch."
