Punchline Business and Community Champion: Front line key workers need your old mobile phones

An appeal has gone out for spare mobile phones to help staff working in the health service help those most in need.

A telecommunications firm from Gloucestershire has sent out an appeal through Punchline for old or unwanted mobile phones to help doctors' surgeries whose phone systems are overrun with calls.

With patients observing the coronavirus social distancing guidelines more are taking to the telephone to call their surgeries, and it has stretched many beyond capacity.

Which is why Lister Unified Communications, has stepped in to collect mobile phones which could help staff alleviate some of the pressure by opening up more lines of communication and allow more people to get the help they need.

And why Punchline has highlighted the firm as one of its Business and Community Champions in a campaign backed by GFirst LEP and the Growth Hub to shine a light on some of the great efforts being made county-wide in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Because of the crisis their telephone systems are at capacity so they are putting in mobile connections for GP's, nurses and reception staff to use to contact patients.

"They need some basic mobile phones to put these into, and are asking if local businesses would donate old devices, they just need to be working and without a security pin, preferably with a charger.

Listers will check them out and then get these to the surgeries asap," said Jim Clapham, from the Stonehouse-based telecommunications specialist which has been working with Cheltenham Primary Care Network which runs two surgeries in Cheltenham, two in Bishops Cleeve and one in Winchcombe.

Ideally any phones would be unlocked or come with a pin number that you can pass on. A charging lead would also be handy, but not completely necessary.

Just last week we also highlighted how the Lister Unified Communications had parachuted itself in to a doctor's surgery in Gloucester to help bring more capacity to its phone service.

If you or your business think you can help then here are the contact details. Lister Unified Communications will do the rest.
