BREAKING NEWS: Fresh new cuisine for Gloucester Quays

El Mexicana, the authentic Mexican eatery, is set to open at Gloucester Quays.

El Mexicana will be launching in the coming months, having taken a 600 sq ft unit adjacent to The Real Greek.

The new space forms part of a key gateway to Gloucester Quays' wider retail offer and diversifies the cuisines on offer at the centre.

Punchline has a hunch the new restaurant will be opening in a vacant unit between Quattro Design Architects and TGI Fridays.

The menu will consist of Mexican favourites, from burritos to quesadillas and nachos, as well as sweet treats in the form of freshly made churros, suitable for a quick grab-and-go lunch, as well as dinner.

All dishes will be made fresh and with organic ingredients, with El Mexicana encouraging customisation to suit the customer's taste.

Paul Carter, asset director at Peel L&P, which owns Gloucester Quays, said: "Providing new options at Gloucester Quays means we can truly appeal to all of our visitors, whether they live locally or further afield, and whether they want to grab a quick lunch or enjoy a meal as part of a full day out.

"El Mexicana delivers on all of these - their offer works for a number of visitation reasons, and they add a fresh take on a new cuisine for Gloucester Quays."

Gloucester Quays expanded its dining options last autumn, with the opening of The Real Greek, which contributed to a 10.5% rise in food and beverage sales for the year compared with 2019.

John Coverley, founder of El Mexicana, said: "Our take on some of the most famous Mexican dishes has universal appeal, and can be summed up in two words - fresh and vibrant.

"We are delighted to be joining Gloucester Quays, a place that has shown its huge F&B appeal and continues to be relevant for a huge range of customers in and around Gloucester."

El Mexicana's signing follows a strong 12-month period for the Quays, with record breaking sales in 2022.

Peel L&P has also driven an industry-leading ESG (environmental, social and governance) agenda for Gloucester Quays, following the announcement that, alongside MediaCity Salford, it is amongst the first retail destinations to achieve Net Zero Carbon - Operational Energy, in line with UKGBC's Net Zero Carbon Buildings Framework.
