Free learning and adventure weekends for over 50s at college

SGS College has launched a new, free course to the over 50s, called 'Discover'.

Designed for the young at heart, Discover offers participants a day trip to various locations across the UK, as well as an English course to help people brush up on their skills and gain a qualification in recognition of their new talents.

Taking place over a weekend, participants will attend one of the College's campuses in either Bristol (WISE Campus) or Stroud on the Saturday, where friendly and supportive staff will guide them through a short qualification, and rediscover life as a student.

Armed with their new qualification in English, the Sunday is where the real fun begins, as the group is driven by coach to one of the exciting days out around the region.

Discover is free to all those who attend. This includes the day trip (plus transport) and the English course. SGS recommends booking as soon as possible, as spaces are limited and filling up fast. There is also free parking at both campuses and free refreshments and lunch provided on the Saturday. Learners are required to bring a packed lunch on the Sunday.

SGS College's Discover programme is brought to you by the team behind the award-winning Refresh 2 Impress course; a free, three-day programme for the over-fifties and retired that won National Project of the Year at the 2017 Festival of Learning.

87-year-old Alfreda Hill, from Stroud, took part in the Refresh 2 Impress programme two years ago and said getting back into education was the best decision she ever made and recommends others try it for themselves.

Discover courses run from February until July, with the first course running February 24-25 with a trip to Cardiff Castle and the Welsh museum, St Fagans.

People interested in signing up for the new Discover course should call 0117 9092327 or visit sgscol.ac.uk/discover
